This wall piece was created in combination with the Murakami exhibit The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg in Chicago in 2017, depicting Murakami’s iconic smiling flowers.

  • Takashi Murakami (b. 1962) studied Japanese painting at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, receiving his bachelor of Fine Arts in 1986, and a PhD in 1993. He is often named the “Warhol of Japan”, famously known for his vibrantly coloured smiling flowers and the use of motives from Japanese popular and traditional culture. His works are displayed worldwide in prestigious museums such as The Guggenheim in Bilbao and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, as well as through collaborations with artists such as Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and brands such as Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. He is a leading figure in the Japanese and contemporary art scene.
