Super exclusive collaboration of Piet Parra and Ben Augustus as part of the Outsiderwear project in Amsterdam. Here, talented “outsider” artists, who have a mental or physical disability, a psychological vulnerability or a ‘’homeless background’’ are linked to upcoming or already successful fashion designers, streetwear labels and artists. When Parra and Augustus met, it was clear they had similar ways of working, including the preference of working alone. Nonetheless, they found each other in drawing and complemented each other’s work, resulting in these prints.

  • Ben Augustus (b. r1960) was born with Down’s Syndrome, has impaired hearing and therefore never learned to speak very well. He has been working at Gallery Atelier Herenplaats in Rotterdam since 1994, and is inspired by the things he loves the most: The series “Goede tijden, slechte tijden”, musicals, Feyenoord, amusement parks and most of all: nude women, preferably playmates.

Amsterdam based graphic artist and illustrator Piet Parra (pseud. of Pieter Janssen) was born in 1976. He is widely known for his bird-like characters and figures, as well as his use of vibrant colours. Celebrated through solo exhibitions since 2005 encompassing galleries and museums in Europe, the United Stated and Asia, the largely self-taught artist began his career drawing flyers and posters for music venues in Amsterdam in the 1990s. He has collaborated with brands such as Nike, Patta, and Case Studyo, and is the co-founder and creative mind behind the apparel label ByParra.
